Case Study 1 - Jane, Occupational Therapist, Hertfordshire
When I started working with Jane she already had an inspiring vision of what she wanted to create for herself and the impact this could potentially have on her profession and the world. Her passion for her work was what led her to coaching and her desire to make a difference. A committed mother who lived with her partner, Jane also wanted time with her family while balancing this with her personal goals.
When Jane started coaching, these were some of her challenges:
* overwhelm with the more detailed, paper-based tasks in her role that took her away from what she loved doing
* lack of time and space for herself
* getting paralysed in stressful situations
* feeling exhausted
* wanting to be included but not knowing how
* having a big dream and not knowing where to start
We looked at how she got stuck in situations that she didn't have any control over. By looking what fears from her past were controlling her in these situations and leaving them in the past, Jane was able to stay in action and start letting go of what she couldn't control and enjoying more. By bringing old internal dialogues that undermined her out into the open, Jane became freer to start moving forward. Recognising that she was taking on too much consistently, she was able to start saying no rather than taking on too much and not being able to manage.
During our work together Jane has:
* Completed an overwhelming back log of case studies
* Asked for a bigger work space and got it
* Incorporated habits into her daily life that are nurturing
* Reduced her working hours and is increasing her income
* Organised and run a sponsored race for charity
* Been offered the teaching work that she was looking for out of the blue
* Organised a community fund-raising event
* Been accepted onto a prestigious, world-recognised Masters programme that will take her one step further to becoming an expert in her field
* Asked for funding and was accepted
* Co-ordinated a book research project and is currently running a pilot for the work in schools
This is what Jane says about our work together:
"I keep hearing big, loud laughter at work these days and am amazed when I realise its me!! I am enlivened and connected. A year ago it was a different story. Work was only a weight and a darkness, a drudgery of endless reports, anger, frustration and boredom. This is when I met Fiona. An inspiration who has creatively and intelligently nurtured and supported me, considered and questioned me, sparked tears and laughter but ultimately has patiently pealed away layers of unhelpful coping strategies and reframe my life-work balance, time for myself and family, and allowed creative ideas to shine through. I am now awakened to new energy, enthusiasm and happiness. Keep on laughing. Thank you Fiona!"
Case Study 2 - Ben, Corporate Lawyer, London
When I started working with Ben he was in the process of making an important career decision around whether or not to stay with his then employer. He came to coaching looking to start creating a life that let him continue to be challenged professionally while allowing more time for him own life beyond work.
In our work together, we have created a space where Ben can:
* look at his options with more clarity
* make decisions based on a longer-term vision of his life
* begin to recognise his own innate strengths and areas for development
During our short time together, Ben has:
* successfully found another position he is very happy with
* booked some much needed holiday time to take stock, travel and spend time with family and friends
* started exploring the bigger picture of what success really looks like for him
* begun to take more calculated risks
Ben says:
"Coaching helps me think about my life and my behaviour in ways that I had not considered previously. It opens my mind to real and realistic possibilities. Fiona is warm and approachable, understanding and objective. (Working with her) ...has made me realise that life is full of options and that decisions about those options need not be based on polarised criteria."
